The FAIRSEA project aims to strengthen transnational capacities and cooperation in the field of the ecosystem approach to fisheries in the Adriatic region through the exchange of knowledge and the sharing of best practices among partners. The partners’ complementary expertise is shared, interconnected, and integrated, while also taking into account the challenges and opportunities identified by stakeholders. These efforts are embedded within a spatially explicit management platform that will enable the sharing of expertise, the creation of a common knowledge base, the enhancement of the operational application of the ecosystem approach to fisheries, the improvement of expertise regarding the dynamics of complex systems, and the fostering of consensus on the state of the environment and fisheries in the region. The process developed within the FAIRSEA project will provide an opportunity to describe best practices and define guidelines for sustainable fisheries management.
